Auch ist aut = »oder wenigstens«, um auf etwas Geringeres, und = »oder vielmehr«, um auf etwas genauer Bezeichnendes herabzusteigen, und = »oder überhaupt« verallgemeinernd [z.B. aut aliquid eiusmodi]: oder erst gar, aut vero). – vel (stellt einen Unterschied als unwesentlich hin, auf den es im gegebenen Falle weniger ankommt, so daß er dem Hörer od. Leser zur beliebigen Wahl an heimgegeben wird, dah. auch unser »oder mit andern Worten«.
